Google searches will now return to the SERP page not only other web pages relevant to your search but also images and videos.
This potentially means organisations with the ability, and most importantly the resources, could effectively take over the whole of any results on the first page of a search, thus blocking out anyone else.
Google argues that this is the best way to give relevance to any search but personally I disagree.
Why? Well call me old fashioned but if I do a search on a topic I'm generally looking for information that is contextual and tells me more, I don’t want a load of images or videos.
Who knows but a cynic might say that it forces companies away from pure Organic Search Engine Optimisation into Pay Per Click.
This is because if you are in an industry with a dominant player they have much more opportunity to naturally block you out from the results.
The result of this being you need to use Pay Per Click to get found.
More Pay Per Click equals larger Google bank balance so it is in their interest. Doubt they’d admit it though.
