Sitemaps

These seem to be becoming more and more important and certainly Yahoo!™, Google™, MSN™ & ASK™ have got together to promote the use of sitemaps using XML as a means of unifying how they are used.

In addition the use of Autodiscovery, placing a link to your XML sitemap in your robots.txt file, should help updating, the idea being that web spiders will follow the link in the robots.txt file to the site map everytime they visit. This saves you having to upload each time you make amendments.

Why are sitemaps important?

The simple answer comes back to being indexed. Sitemaps help you get indexed and that means you get found more easily.
