Page titles are important as these are what a visitor sees right at the very top of their browser window. They give an immediate clue as to what the page is about and subconsciously tell visitors they have arrived at the correct place.
From an optimisation perspective they sit in the head tag of the page together with the description so they are also one of the first things that is indexed by a web spider such as the Googlebot or Slurp.
In addition they are often used in a SERP [Search Engine Results Page] as the main hyperlink to your page with the description used underneath.
This is why it is important you pay attention to them as if they do not include the words your potential visitor has searched for then it is doubtful they’ll click your link.
